I think of myself as a bit eclectic. There’s not really one thing that defines me. I like to have a part in a little bit of everything. So my blog reflects that.
I’m a 30-something, new to this stay-at-home mom thing.
I blog a lot about my kids because that’s where I am right now. I blog about preemies, because my son was born at 32 weeks. Which made me very grateful for things I used to take for granted–like life and breath. I want to treasure each moment. So I write them down.
My daughter Mara was born on Christmas Day 2006. Her curly red hair and sparkly blue eyes reflect her spirited, vivacious personality. She loves both playgroup and “booktime.” She is a girly-girl, who loves painting her nails, wearing dresses, putting bows in her hair. But she is spunky enough to hold her own with her little group of mostly “boy” friends. She never met a stranger! and constantly narrates real (or imaginary) life. Even at two years old, she’s becoming my little friend.
My son Micah was born in June 2008. From the beginning, this little guy was more challenging: from bedrest during pregnancy, to the NICU experience, coming home on the cardiorespiratory monitor, colic for four months . . . Now as a one-year-old, he is exclusively Mama’s Boy, a habit we are trying to break him of. He’s spirited–in his own way, but much more shy, introverted–a “homebody.” I would like to say, “He’ll be the strong, silent type,” but the truth is there’s nothing ‘silent’ about him. He’s probably the loudest member of our family. . . so maybe he’ll just be the ‘strong’ type. . . time will tell.
I live in a rowhome in the innercity with my husband, our kids, our two dogs (a beautiful German Shepherd, Verona, and my little Westie, McCheyne)–and our fish, dubbed creatively by our daughter: “Fish.”
So if you read my blog, you will hear about city life. City life and kids. About pets. Pets and kids.
My husband and I are passionate about God, and we want to live out our lives sharing the gospel here in the city.
So I blog about what God is doing in my heart and other people’s lives.
I am a CPA and, before kids, I worked as an auditor at Ernst & Young. So sometimes I feel like a very atypical SAHM! Sometimes I revert back to my days in the business world. . .
Throughout my life, I have lived in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. There are things I absolutely love about each place. Over time, you will hear about them.
In the past I have been very involved in politics. But in this blog (as hard as it is for me!) I am deliberately avoiding political commentary, except as topics intersect with moral issues clearly defined in God’s Word.
We have moved 3 times in the past two years; 5 times in the past 5 years. We are ready to settle down for awhile.
That said, I do love traveling. I love New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Houston, London, Paris. . . So you may hear about my travels. . .
I love the beach with a particular affinity for the Outer Banks, where Daniel and I vacationed for three summers (before kids!).
Florida is great too! My sister lives in Jacksonville, and we honeymooned in Palm Beach.
I love reading, but there is never enough time.
I used to garden, but our “yard” is now a concrete slab.
I do pilates. Though not regularly.
I am not into TV. I have tried, but I really can’t do it. It feels like a huge waste of time. That said, I can enjoy The Office, Chuck, Psych. . . that’s about it.
I’m trying to get into “keeping house.” So far that hasn’t happened!
I love saving money, finding deals, buying and selling on eBay, and getting & giving on FreeCycle!
I love outdoor activities–swimming, hiking, rafting, jet skiing, kneeboarding (because I’m no good at water-skiing!) . . . but I’m feeling a little limited with my two toddlers . . .
Scrapbooking is one of my favorite leisure activities at home. I’m trying to get into digital. . .
Playing the piano is incredibly relaxing. I used to teach piano (before kids).
My husband loves good coffee, and I have developed a taste for it myself.
I have taken over 40,000 pictures in the past two years . . . yes, amateur photography is an obsession! But just to be fair, I do use the “burst” feature a lot.
All my life I have loved writing. I can’t not write (pardon the double negative)!
Which is what I’m doing right now.
